In addition to using the largest operational launch vehicle, the Delta IV Heavy, Parker Solar Probe will use a third stage rocket to gain the speed needed to reach the Sun, which takes 55 times more energy than reaching Mars. The Parker Solar probe is due to lift off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida for NASA's historic mission to the Sun on 11 August 2018. The probe that will be the fastest spacecraft in history is expected to have a lifetime of some seven years, and is to complete 24 orbits around the sun at a distance of 3.8 million miles at its closest approach.
