Τα 6,6 δισ. δολάρια είναι πολύ χαμηλότερα σε σχέση με την αύξηση της καθαρής περιουσίας των δισεκατομμυριούχων κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας του κορωνοϊού.
Όπως πολύ συχνά συμβαίνει με τον Έλον Μασκ, όλα ξεκίνησαν από ένα tweet. Ο Ντέιβιντ Μπίσλεϊ, διευθυντής του Παγκόσμιου Επισιτιστικού Προγράμματος του ΟΗΕ, επισήμανε στον πλουσιότερο άνθρωπο του κόσμου ότι με μια προσφορά 6,6 δισεκατομμυρίων δολαρίων θα ανακουφιστεί η παγκόσμια κρίση πείνας. Ο Διευθύνων Σύμβουλος της Tesla απάντησε, λέγοντας ότι εάν το πρόγραμμα μπορούσε να εξηγήσει λεπτομερώς πώς η δωρεά του θα έλυνε την πείνα στον κόσμο, θα την έδινε.
Τώρα το Παγκόσμιο Επισιτιστικό Πρόγραμμα κάνει ακριβώς αυτό. Όπως αναφέρθηκε ήδη στο αρχικό tweet του Μπίσλεϊ, τα 6,6 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια προορίζονται για να βοηθήσουν 42 εκατομμύρια ανθρώπους σε όλο τον κόσμο που αντιμετωπίζουν, επί του παρόντος, μια επισιτιστική έκτακτη ανάγκη ή μια τροφική καταστροφή. Καταστάσεις δηλαδή όπου οι άνθρωποι έχουν εξαντλήσει εναλλακτικά μέσα για να ανακουφίσουν την έλλειψη χρημάτων ή τροφής, και όπου ήδη υπάρχει σοβαρός υποσιτισμός και θάνατος.
Ο πλανήτης λοιπόν, περιμένει να μάθει αν αυτό ήταν ένα ακόμα tweet που μετάνιωσε ο Έλον Μασκ. Όμως πώς θα κατανέμονταν αυτά τα 6.6 δις για ν’ανακουφιστούν οι φτωχές χώρες;
